The sky has always played a role in my life inspiring ideas for various projects, and to keep me moving forward. The wide range of blue sky tones influenced an idea to transfer an outdoor color scheme that can engage various emotional connections, into a beautiful hardwood floor series called Series 6. Whether it is the warm summer sky in the evening, the freshness of a cold crisp mountain sky at mid day, or the early morning when the whole city is sleeping and the sun is about to light up the sky, these various tones lay foundation to the inspiration to this beautiful collection of blues.

EXTENDED INSPIRATION

Stephen Hawking recently said, “remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see, wonder about what makes the universe exist.” he added, “be curious. However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. It matters that you don’t just give up.”

These words spoke to me and what I strive to be in life and as a designer. It also made me think of how often the sky is influential in my ideas and the place my eyes wonder to find inspiration, comfort, or assist anything else I may be feeling. The sky is a vast space that has a variety of looks that can intrigue various feelings that everyone we’ve ever known or learned about have shared. Depending on the time of day , temperature, weather conditions, region, altitude, or indoors or outdoors, there are a variety of blue tones that cast beautifully down upon us.

“Things are looking up”, and “sky’s the limit”, are a couple other quotes that made me think conceptually of using the sky for a reference in developing Series 6. Observing the current design world, I felt the time has come to incorporate more options than the standard blacks, whites, greys and browns that hardwood flooring has offered it’s customers. We proudly bring you a blue color series called Series 6, keeping in mind to avoid loud and tacky tones that would not match up with a potential design. Blue was chosen to join those top color choices because as observed in the popular grey tones, hints of blue are present. Blue is a great option to start with branching out into a future with a bit more color and personality while falling along the lines of something that has worked in the past, and has a foreseeable future. It never hurts to try new things and I certainly don’t mind being pleasantly surprised when I see something new and different. The final stages of the development of this series provided me with exitement when I saw the chic, refreshing new direction hardwood flooring could go towards. This could be the inspiration that starts the curiousity of what could be.
